Unit 9- Circle Geometry
Chords, perpendicular bisectors, central and inscribed angles and tangents.
DEFINITIONS
- Tangent- A line that intersects a circle at only one point.
- Point of Tangency- The point at which a tangent intersects a circle.
- Chord- A line segment that joins two parts of a circle.
- Diameter- A chord that goes through the central part of a circle.
- Perpendicular Bisector- Intersects a line segment at 90 degrees and divides the line segment into two different parts.
- Arc- A section of the circumference of a circle. A minor arc is the smaller arc, a major arc is the bigger arc.
Pythagorean Theorem in Circles
- The Pythagorean Theorem can be used in circles to determine distances.
Remember that all the angles in a circle add up to 180 degrees, so you can find the missing angle in a right triangle even if you are only given two of the angles. Remember that one of the angles is 90 degrees.
