Introduction
This site is all about what grade 9 students in Alberta learn about in Math. We will be covering:
Unit 1 - Number Concepts - Factors, multiples, prime numbers, fractions, decimals, integers and percents.
Unit 2 - Rational Numbers - Operations with rational numbers, comparing and ordering rational numbers, problem solving with rational numbers, order of operations and rational vs. irrational numbers.
Unit 3 - Powers and Exponents - Powers, exponents, bases, zero exponents, exponent laws and square roots.
Unit 4 - Equations and Polynomials - Manipulative's, algebra, one and two step equations, distributive property, variables on both sides, clearing fractions, verify solutions, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing polynomials.
Unit 5 - Linear Relations - Graphing skills, tables of values, linear equations, graphs and equations, graph analysis and interpolation and extrapolation.
Unit 6 - Inequalities - Solving inequalities and displaying solutions on a number line.
Unit 7 - Symmetry - Line and rotation symmetry, similarity of polygons, enlargements and reductions and scale factor.
Unit 8 - Geometry - Surface area of cylinders, rectangular prisms, and triangular prisms.
Unit 9 - Circle Geometry - Chords, perpendicular bisectors, central and inscribed angles and tangents.
Unit 10 - Data Analysis - Bias, ethics, cultural sensitivity and privacy, use of language, cost and how they affect data collection.
